Butchered Tails runs private sport fishing charters out of Dana Landing in San Diego aboard a SeaVee 340Z — a 34-foot center console built for speed, fishability, and small-group trips targeting bluefin tuna, yellowfin, yellowtail, dorado, calico bass, and more. Every trip is capped at four anglers, with premium Phenix rods, Daiwa reels, and professionally rigged tackle included. From half-day kelp bed runs along La Jolla and Point Loma to full-day trophy bluefin expeditions at the Coronado Islands, the experience is personal, private, and built around putting you on fish.
Off the water, Derek owns Valley Farm, where he's building a fully sustainable ecosystem — rotational grazing, cover cropping, and closed-loop composting designed so nothing is wasted and everything feeds something else. It's the same philosophy he brings to the boat: respect the system, work with what the environment gives you, and leave it better than you found it. Josh keeps it simple — he drives the boat, reads the water, and finds fish with a focus that makes him one of the best captains in San Diego.
Together, they're the reason Butchered Tails exists: two lifelong watermen sharing the best fishing Southern California has to offer.
