San Diego offers some of the best sport fishing on the West Coast

Offshore · Deep offshore waters, 40-80+ miles out
The crown jewel of San Diego sportfishing. Pacific Bluefin Tuna are powerful, fast, and can exceed 200+ pounds. These world-class gamefish put up incredible fights and are prized for their exceptional sashimi-grade meat.

Offshore · Offshore waters, 25-60 miles out
Fast and acrobatic fighters known for their speed and stamina. Yellowfin Tuna are excellent table fare and often travel in schools, making for exciting multi-fish action.

Inshore + Offshore · Kelp beds to offshore structure
San Diego's most popular gamefish! Yellowtail are aggressive strikers that fight hard from hookup to gaff. Found around kelp beds, islands, and offshore structure year-round.

Offshore · Offshore floating debris and kelp paddies
The most colorful fish in the ocean! Dorado are acrobatic fighters that leap repeatedly when hooked. Their brilliant blue, green, and gold colors make them a favorite catch.

Inshore · Coastal kelp beds and sandy bottoms
A prized inshore species known for their challenging fight and excellent eating quality. White Seabass are found around kelp beds and often require finesse to catch.

Inshore · Kelp forests and rocky structure
The kelp forest warrior! Calico Bass (Kelp Bass) are aggressive feeders that live in the kelp forests. Perfect for light tackle anglers seeking action-packed fishing.

Inshore · Rocky reefs and structure, 60-300ft
Ferocious predators with impressive teeth and even better taste. Lingcod are ambush hunters found on rocky reefs. Their white, flaky meat is considered some of the best eating on the coast.

Inshore · Sandy flats and bay entrances
The ultimate flatfish challenge! California Halibut are ambush predators that lie camouflaged on sandy bottoms. Landing a "barn door" halibut is a trophy catch.

Inshore · Rocky reefs and structure, all depths
A family of colorful bottom-dwellers with dozens of species. Rockfish are reliable action year-round and excellent eating. Great for filling the cooler on any trip.

Offshore · Deep offshore waters near temperature breaks
The speedster of the sea! Wahoo are incredibly fast predators that can exceed 60 mph. Their razor-sharp teeth and blistering runs make them an exciting catch, plus their meat is exceptional.
